Using an Autopilot as a Fishing Tool
The primary benefit of an autopilot lies in its ability to steer your boat along a heading or course entered in your navigation system, allowing you watch sounder, radar and provide an additional set of hands.
Autopilots are also useful tools in angling-specifics ways. For example, the pilot can be programmed along a certain depth contour which could be steep ledge that’s holding fish.
These contours also tend to create temperature & current breaks often were bait and predator fish can be found.
Dedicated fishing patterns within the Autopilot can very useful while fishing, the pattern that you choose depends on the type fishing you are performing. For example, “lazy S” turns are great for game fishing periodically swing trolling lures across the wake can be just what is required to bring a non-committal fish bite and clover leaf patterns are great for working bait balls.
